1. assignment - functions

Period 1 - 1. Homework

Start a blog in which to record your thoughts about precalculus mathematics. Your first entry should discuss include the things listed here.

  1. Sketches of graphs from real-world information
  2. Familiar kinds of functions from previous courses and from this unit
  3. How to dilate and translate the graph of a function
  4. Any difficulties or misconceptions you have but overcame
  5. Any topics about which you are still unsure

1. You have to decide what is dependent and what independent, normaly things are dependent from time. Than you have to imagine how the  dependent thing in the problem changes and than simply sketch it.

2.

  • Polynomial  f(x)=an*x^n n= not negative
  • Quadratic function f(x)=ax+bx+c     a movable parabel
  • Linear funktion f(x)=ax+b    it is a endless line, with b you move the high
  • Direct variation function  f(X)=ax   a line starting from (0/0), angel depending from a
  • Power function f(x)=ax^b b=not negative bis influenced by x (so you can get raely sceary graphs!)
  • Exponential funktion f(x)=a*b^x this function is variating a lot, wether x is negative or smaler0.5
  • Inverse variation function f(x)=a/x or a/x^n or ax^-n fraction function, kind of powerfunction, because x influences n
  • Rational algebratic function f(x)=px/qx

3.

  • vertical translation (for example) g(x)=f(x)+3  moves the graph up, but it dont became streched
  • horizontal dilation g(x)=f(x-3) movesthe graph 3 right (it is everytime the opposite), nothing became streched
  • vertical dilation g(x)=2f(x) you have to multiply everything with 2 (or whatever stands before), the graph become streched and longer along the y acsis
  • horizontal dilation g(x)=f(1/2x) the graph become streched, along  the xacsis it become longer (here)

4. I had no idea what a powerfunction is, what holes are and never heared the most names of functions.

5. I have still no real idea about polinomials and Invese variation functions, but we did not need them. Where can I find the homework on this page? I copyed the Questions from another 1.Period weblog.
